How soon can I fly after cataract surgery?

After routine cataract surgery it is advisable to wait 1 week before going on a short-haul flight and 2 weeks before going on a long-haul flight.

This allows time for the eye to heal and reduce the risk of discomfort on the flight from a potentially dry environment.

Measures that you can take to reduce the risk of potential problems are to use your postoperative eye drops whilst on the flight (particularly for longer flights) and carry artificial tear drops to use in case your eye feels dry or irritable.
